Signal Processing and DAQ

Before an ADC can digitize a signal, it often needs preparation.

Signal Conditioning

The process of manipulating an analog signal to make it suitable for a digitizer.

  1. Amplification: Boosting weak signals (e.g., mV from a loadcell) to readable levels (e.g., 0-5V).
  2. Filtering: Removing high-frequency Noise.
  3. Linearization: Correcting non-linear sensor outputs.

Isolation (Galvanic Isolation)

An electrical barrier that separates the measurement circuit from the main power or communication lines.

  • Purpose:
    • Protects the sensitive DAQ equipment from high voltage surges.
    • Prevents Ground Loops, which cause significant measurement errors in industrial environments.
